I charge on a sliding scale of $90 - $160 ($125 is right in the middle) for an initial consultation ($140-$210 for twins). A visit typically lasts about 2 hours (longer for twins). You decide where on the scale you can pay. I am comfortable with whatever you choose to pay and I want you to be, too. Follow up visits also last about 2 hours and the sliding scale for these is $60 - $90 ($100 - $130 for twins). Payment is due at time of service. If you live outside Bloomington, additional fees may be applied. Please contact me for details.

I believe that every mother needs and deserves to feel supported both emotionally as well as with the more practical aspects that arise when nursing a newborn. Whether it's your first baby or your third, every mother-baby pair can benefit from breastfeeding support.
My breastfeeding support includes an initial phone conversation that will address any concerns you may have before I can see you in person. Much can be gained through this discussion to help both mother and baby with common situations that can appear in the early days.
If you have a home birth, I can see you soon after your baby arrives, typically within the first two days to help get breastfeeding off to a good start. If your baby is born in the hospital, please contact me to set up a home visit upon your arrival home. A typical visit usually takes about 2 hours and is never rushed. If you do not wish to wait until you are home, I am happy to come see you in the hospital.
During a home visit your baby's latch will be evaluated to make sure that she is nursing effectively and in a way that causes no discomfort for you. It shouldn't hurt to nurse! If you are experiencing any pain at the breast, please call me for support. We can work together to improve your baby's latch and positioning so that nursing feels good for both of you. Sometimes a simple repositioning of the baby or pillows added for support can make a world of difference and improve your breastfeeding experience. Let me assist you on your couch, with your pillows in your home.
You do not need to be having a problem before you call for support. A home visit to confirm that, yes, things are going wonderfully can be very reassuring! A home visit is also a time to ask any questions you may have about nursing or newborn care in the comfort of your own home.
A portion of your home visit will include in home breastfeeding education based on your needs. Some of the many topics that can be discussed include: early feeding cues, proper latching, positioning baby at breast, how to know baby is getting enough milk as well as common nursing problems and solutions to those problems.
After your home visit I encourage you to call me with any questions or concerns to ensure that things are continuing to go well or to make sure things are improving if there were any early challenges. Follow up appointments are always available if necessary or desired and cost $50 per visit.
After our visit a report can be sent to your midwife or physician as well as to your baby’s pediatrician or family doctor.
